A free Mealime alternative for the UK
Mealime said it would close on 21 October 2026 (its website). If you used it to plan dinners and make a shopping list, Weekplate does the same job, with UK shops in mind.
Free, in your browser. No download, no account.
Mealime and Weekplate
| What | Mealime | Weekplate |
|---|---|---|
| Planning | You choose recipes for your plan | It plans the whole week for you, with a double batch for a night off; swap any dinner you don't fancy |
| Shopping list | One grocery list from your recipes | One list in whole packs (a pack of 8, 2 × 400g), sorted by aisle, after a cupboard check |
| Shops | No UK shop links | Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Morrisons, Ocado and Waitrose, one item at a time in your own account |
| Price | Free, with a paid Pro plan | Free |
| Where | Closing | In your browser now; iPhone and Android apps are coming |
To be fair to Mealime: it had far more recipes. Weekplate has 57 recipes so far, chosen for weeknights, and more are being added.
How to switch
There's nothing to import and no account to make. Answer five questions (how many of you, how many dinners, what you don't eat, how long you can cook on a weeknight, and where you shop) and your week and list are ready.
Your saved recipes in Mealime won't come across. Weekplate picks from its own recipes, and you can swap any dinner for another.
Questions
Is Weekplate free?
Yes. Planning your week and your shopping list are free.
Do I need an account?
No. Everything is saved on your phone, in your browser.
Does it order my food?
No. It shows each item ready to search in your shop's website or app, and you add the product you want.
Can it avoid foods I don't eat?
Yes. Tick meats, fish or other foods you don't eat, or search for any ingredient. There's no allergy mode, so always check the labels.
